Hotel room rental tax in certain third class counties - Former HB 2239

Representative Ron Miller
R House District 93
Memo
I plan to introduce legislation making changes to York County’s hotel room tax. The bill would give the commissioners the option to impose a room tax of up to 5 percent. Currently the county levies a tax of 3 percent under the authority of Section 1770.2 of the County Code, which also applied to several other counties. All of the counties covered under this section have a maximum room tax of 3 percent.
The bill would remove York County from Section 1770.2 and place it under its own room tax law, with the maximum rate increased to 5 percent. That’s basically the only change the county will experience—the language covering the imposition of the tax and the disposition of the revenue would remain the same as it is currently, and no other counties would be affected.
