Allow Massage Therapists to Work in Cosmetology Salons

Memo
In the near future I will be introducing legislation to allow licensed massage therapists to practice in cosmetology and esthetician salons provided an appropriate level of privacy is ensured for clients.
Currently, Section 7.77 of the State Board of Cosmetology regulations (49 Pa. Code, Chapter 7) prohibits any part of a salon from being used for any purposes other than the practice of cosmetology. My legislation would allow massage therapists to work in salons and perform the same level of massage that cosmetologists and estheticians are now able to provide with no modifications to existing salons required. Massage therapists would also be allowed to perform full body massage in salons if private rooms are provided. I believe this is a reasonable modernization of the Cosmetology Act and reflects the developments in the spa industry.
I hope you will join me as a co-sponsor of this legislation. If you have any questions please contact Connie McClure in my Harrisburg office at 705-7170 or by e-mailing cmcclure@pahousegop.com.
Thank you for your consideration and support of this very important piece of legislation.
