Memo
In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation to expand access to the ballot box through early voting and same-day, in-person voter registration during the early voting period.

Specifically, my legislation would establish a period of early voting 10 (ten) days prior to Election Day for all voters. Second, my legislation would allow qualified individuals to register to vote and cast a ballot on the same day during the period of early voting.  Proof of residency is required and must be verified before the individual can cast a ballot.

Providing for early voting and same-day registration should be a priority for us as lawmakers. As of 2012, 34 states allow early voting. Same day registration has been in place in Maine, Minnesota, and Wisconsin since the early-to-mid 1070s and 11 states (California, Connecticut, Idaho, Maine, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Wisconsin, and Wyoming) and the District of Columbia have enacted same-day registration. My legislation will combine these to important pieces of election reform.

Implementing these reforms will increase voter turnout, remedy inaccurate voter rolls, while providing greater ballot access for low-income citizens, young voters and voters of color.

I hope you will join me in co-sponsoring this bill. Please email Germaine Brown in my Harrisburg Office (gbrown@pahouse.net) if you have any questions.
