D House District 77
Memo
In the near future, I plan to re-introduce legislation (House Bill 880) that would amend Title 58 (Oil and Gas) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes to require that public notice be given for natural gas permit applications.
Specifically, this legislation would require that well operators provide public notice of permit applications through newspaper publication. A public notice would be required to appear in a newspaper that is published in the locality in which the permit has been applied for prior to the filing of an application with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. The public notice would be required to be published once a week for four consecutive weeks. Additionally, well operators would be required to include proof of the publication with their permit applications.
As the natural gas industry continues to flourish in Pennsylvania, it is imperative that the public be kept informed of this industry’s drilling activities in our communities.
Please join me in sponsoring this important legislation.
