Memo

In the near future, I will be introducing important legislation reauthorizing the Underground Utility Line Protection Law (Act 287 of 1974), commonly known as the PA One Call law.  The Act, which sunsets December 31, 2016, establishes a system of communication intended to protect underground utility facilities from line hits from excavation projects. My bill extends the effective date of this law for one year, until December 31, 2017.

The PA One Call law requires that the owners of underground lines be notified and mark their lines prior to any excavation occurring within a certain radius of the lines.  This law is imperative in ensuring the safety of excavators and property owners and minimizing damage to underground lines.
