Memo
In the near future, we plan to introduce legislation that would ban lobbyists from serving as campaign consultants, having a financial interest in a campaign-consulting firm, or receiving anything of value for campaign-related services (formerly House Bill 1978 of the 2015-2016 Legislative Session).
In Pennsylvania, lobbyists outnumber legislators by a ratio of five to one and donate millions of dollars to electoral campaigns. While contributing to candidates and lobbying elected officials, these same lobbyists frequently work on political campaigns. All too often, lobbyists influence the decisions of legislators who they helped to elect.
The aforementioned practice contributes to a culture of corruption and is why American citizens continually rate the honesty and ethical standards of lobbyists as very low, the worst of any profession.
Therefore, we ask that you co-sponsor our legislation. Join us to decrease corruption in our political process and increase integrity.
