Memo
Approximately 700 nursing homes currently operate in Pennsylvania. For individuals and families, the task of choosing the right facility can be daunting. Even the nursing home locater available on the Department of Health website lacks adequate information and is difficult to navigate.

It is imperative that individuals and families have all the information they need to make a sound decision, and that facilities are being transparent about their status as providers. The Nursing Home Compare tool through Medicare.gov is very helpful in providing the necessary information, but there is a lack of awareness on its availability.

Due to this I am proposing that each facility be required to post both the Nursing Home Compare website and its Nursing Home Compare star rating in a conspicuous place on its premises. This will bring awareness to families and individuals regarding options and also ensure that providers are being transparent about the job they are doing.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this very important piece of legislation. Thank you in advance for your consideration.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact my Harrisburg office at 717-705-1925.
