Pennsylvania’s volunteer, combination, and career emergency response systems are facing devastating struggles statewide. Current staffing shortages and considerable funding gaps are debilitating Fire and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) from being able to do their jobs. These brave men and women assist Pennsylvanians in their moments of crisis, and it is time we assist them in theirs.
The recent release of the Senate Resolution 6 recommendations provide a roadmap for lawmakers to address a variety of concerns in order to adequately support our emergency services. To help actualize these recommendations, I will be introducing a two-bill package to:
The recent release of the Senate Resolution 6 recommendations provide a roadmap for lawmakers to address a variety of concerns in order to adequately support our emergency services. To help actualize these recommendations, I will be introducing a two-bill package to:
- Increase grant funding for both Fire and EMS.
- Disburse fire company grants dependent on municipality populations.
- Direct $200,000 in grant money towards recruitment and retention efforts for Fire and EMS.
- Give grant administration responsibility to the Office of the State Fire Commissioner.
- Extend the expiry date for the Fire and EMS grant programs.
- Amend the Fiscal Code to support the increases in grant funding.
