Memo
In the near future, I intend to introduce legislation that will provide additional financial assistance to our fire and emergency medical services companies to aid their response to the COVID-19 pandemic as well as their daily operational needs.

As we all can agree, our local volunteers provide vital services to our local communities. To show appreciation for these efforts, our local communities turn out for fundraisers hosted by these organizations which in turn, are used to fund the continuance of operations. However, due to the recent COVID-19 pandemic and restrictions on gatherings, these fundraisers are not occurring and are resulting in economic hardships for our volunteer organizations.

To support our volunteers, my legislation will propose a one-time transfer of unused funds previously appropriated  but not used for the purpose for which they were acquired, for distribution by the Office of the State Fire Commissioner to all first responder organizations identified by the State Fire Commissioner across the Commonwealth. I believe this much needed assistance will further equip our volunteers to not only sustain their operations, but also continue their efforts to address the growing impact of COVID-19.

I respectfully ask for your consideration to join me as a co-sponsor of this essential legislation.
