Memo
After months of unemployment, people are fearful, wondering if they will have the money to provide food and basic necessities for their families while maintaining childcare and attending to their children’s education.  At the core of their concern is the burden of losing their homes.  Providing relief to families as they struggle to survive through the COVID-19 pandemic is paramount, demanding our immediate attention.

Governor Wolf has called on the General Assembly to act to save the homes of Pennsylvanians, we need to do so now.  Pennsylvanians can’t wait.  I will be proposing legislation to provide the Governor express powers to place a moratorium on evictions and foreclosures in the Commonwealth or specific counties during a disaster emergency.  A moratorium would extend for 90 days after the disaster emergency has expired or been terminated unless sooner rescinded by the Governor.  This will ensure tenants and homeowners in the Commonwealth have the time they need to apply for financial relief programs, plan for the short- and long-term, and earn and build savings to deliver a stable future for themselves and their families.

The most important respite we can offer financially challenged Pennsylvanians is to insure they will not be removed from their homes as they work to put their lives on firmer ground.  I hope you will join me to increase protections for Pennsylvanians who need our support now, more than ever.
