Memo
Pennsylvanians have recently experienced frustrations because of retailers refusing to accept cash. This is unfair to consumers who do not possess a debit card, credit card, or other electronic means of payment.

In the near future I will be introducing legislation to amend the Unfair Trade Practices and Consumer Protection Law to include refusing to accept cash payment as a definition for “unfair methods of competition” and “unfair or deceptive acts or practices.”

This provision would apply to transactions under $500 when the purchaser is physically present at the point of sale.

Please join me in cosponsoring this important piece of legislation to protect the ability of Pennsylvanians to pay in cash.
