Co-Sponsorship Memo Details

Legislative districts must be redrawn every decade to ensure equity in representation.  Regrettably, the redistricting process often becomes politicized and leads to gerrymandered districts that do not serve residents to the fullest extent possible.  Both major political parties have practiced gerrymandering nationwide, but solutions exist to combat these undemocratic efforts.  One solution is the use of computer algorithms to draw districts, a practice called computational redistricting.

Computational redistricting may work for Pennsylvania.  As such, I plan to introduce a resolution directing the Joint State Government Commission to study the feasibility of using computational redistricting in our state.  This is an important first step in reimagining our redistricting procedure and taking politics out of what should be an apolitical process.  Please join me in co-sponsoring this resolution and let us work together to better serve our residents.
