Please join me to co-sponsoring legislation to update provisions of the Public School Code of 1949 relating to State System of Higher Education campus police officers.
In Act 121 of 2022, the General Assembly unanimously enacted an amendment to Titles 42 and 53 of the Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes to provide for the certification of certain campus police officers and school police officers by the Municipal Police Officers’ Education and Training Commission (MPOETC).
This legislation is a companion bill to Act 121 and would amend the Public School Code of 1949 to require State System of Higher Education campus police officers to receive certification by MPOETC. Further, this legislation would rescind outdated provisions that relate to the authorization of State System of Higher Education campus police officers to carry firearms.
