Memo
As the negative effects of climate change increasingly impact our society, it is in our best interests to take a more serious and aggressive approach to slowing and, eventually, halting these effects. Unfortunately, many homeowners who take the positive step of installing solar energy devices on their homes are then penalized by having to pay higher property taxes. Increased property taxes can eat into energy bill savings as well as dissuade future homeowners from making the switch to solar power for their homes.
To help change this, I will be proposing legislation to exempt homeowners from paying the difference in property tax when the value of the property increases due to the installation of solar energy devices. By eliminating the tax burden created when making the switch to solar energy, we can help to encourage the use of more solar power throughout the Commonwealth and begin to make a difference in the fight against climate change.
