In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation designating a bridge on Syberton Road in Gallitzin Township, Cambria County as the Private Martin J. Hanlon Memorial Bridge.
Mr. Hanlon attended Cresson High School and graduated in 1968. He then joined the Marines and served as a Private in the 1st Marine Division, 11th Mountain Battalion, A Company, 3rd Marine Amphibious Force. Tragically, on December 27th, 1970 in South Vietnam, Private Hanlon was killed when his vehicle struck a landmine on the roadway. Private Martin received the National Defense Service Medal, Purple Heart, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Combat Action Ribbon for his bravery and sacrifice.
