Memo
More than 20,000 children are in foster care in Pennsylvania. Children in foster care are in a vulnerable position, and foster families provide care and love at a time when those children may not have anywhere else to turn.

I plan to introduce a resolution which would recognize May 2023 as “Foster Care Month.” This will give us the opportunity to thank foster families and remind us of the need to ensure that all children have a safe home.

Foster families are the most likely group to adopt when a child in the foster care system has their goal changed to adoption. Even in cases where a family does not adopt a child, foster families are an important stop in a child’s journey, and the support they offer is invaluable. This resolution will remind us of our responsibility to the children of the Commonwealth, and to recognize the work of foster families.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this legislation to recognize May 2023 as “Foster Care Month".
