Memo
Approximately 14% - or almost 2 million - Pennsylvanians received SNAP benefits in 2022. The vast majority of SNAP recipients are children, seniors, or individuals with disabilities. In 2019, it was estimated that one in six eligible individuals did not participate in the SNAP program.
Individuals who are facing tough decisions when it comes to paying for food or other necessities may not know they are eligible for SNAP benefits. In order to address this problem, we will introduce legislation requiring the Department of Human Services to conduct a study and issue a report regarding how the department can improve its outreach and application processes for the SNAP program.
Please join us in co-sponsoring this important legislation that would help ensure all Pennsylvanians who are eligible for SNAP receive the benefits they qualify for.
