Memo
Teachers, nurses, and law enforcement officers are of vital importance in keeping Pennsylvania safe, healthy, and prepared for the future. Unfortunately, these professions all suffer from worker shortages. One in four nursing jobs in our Commonwealth are unfilled, municipalities need at least 1,200 more police officers, and many public schools are having a hard time filling teaching positions.
When there are too few of these hardworking professionals, students struggle, hospitals scramble to provide safe nurse-to-patient ratios, and community safety is at risk.

We must do more to ensure Pennsylvania can attract and keep qualified individuals in some of our most vital professions. Therefore, we are introducing legislation that would provide a tax credit of $2,500 per year for three years for any individual who:
  • Is a Pennsylvania resident, becomes newly certified as a nurse, teacher, or police officer, and secures employment in Pennsylvania within their profession; or
  • Is certified as a nurse, teacher, or police officer in another state, moves to Pennsylvania, and secures employment in Pennsylvania within their profession.
It is our hope that this tax credit program will help ease employee shortages and ensure Pennsylvania communities stay healthy and vibrant.  Please join us in co-sponsoring this important legislation. Thank you for your consideration.
