I will soon introduce legislation amending the Agricultural Area Security Law to allow for the construction on preserved farmland of additional residences for the landowner, immediate family members, or employees.
Under current law, each county program for farmland preservation must permit the construction of one additional residence for the purposes stated above. My legislation will permit the construction of additional residences for those purposes on not more than two acres for each 80 acres of preserved land.
This legislation will help those farmers who have made the perpetual commitment of producing our food and fiber to make the best management decisions for their families and farm businesses. Please join me in supporting this common-sense legislation.
