Memo
When Pennsylvanians use medical marijuana, they should be able to trust that the product they are consuming is safe and accurately represented. Patients should feel confident that they aren’t being exposed to chemicals or mold, and that THC levels are appropriate.
Although our current law does require that independent labs test products to ensure safety, the requirements do not allow for the Department of Health to verify lab testing processes and results.
I plan to introduce legislation to strengthen the Department of Health’s oversight mechanisms to ensure labs are reporting accurate results. Under my bill, labs will be required to report to the Department their standard operating procedures, and the Department will be required to institute a process to check the validity of results.
Creating greater oversight will ensure what is reported to the public is accurate to the chemical makeup of the product. Please join me in strengthening Pennsylvania’s Medical Marijuana program by ensuring its safety and standardization.
