Memo
Many of us have recently become aware of issues with illegible license plates on vehicles. While the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) will waive the replacement fees for license plates that a law enforcement officer or an authorized PennDOT representative have verified to be illegible, the license plate that is reissued at no cost may not be identical in style to the original plate. Like others with specialty license plates, military veterans who have license plates denoting their service must pay a fee if their military license plate becomes illegible and they want to be issued another military license plate.
Military veterans have already given so much of themselves to protect our country and our freedom; they should not be required to pay multiple fees to proudly display their service. For this reason, I am introducing legislation that will require PennDOT to reissue military license plates upon request at no cost to eliminate this hurdle for our veterans.
Please join me in this commonsense effort to support our veterans and thank them for their invaluable service to our state and the nation.
