Pennsylvania taxpayers have a right to expect the truth. When a resident engages with a government official or publicly funded school entity, like a charter school, they must know that the information they are receiving is based on verified text. This is particularly important when educators are teaching from a curriculum or when state employees are providing a resident information, this information must be factual.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) promises significant efficiency across many industries and the progression of large language models and general intelligence is nothing short of amazing. However, sometimes these systems produce content that sounds very realistic but is, in fact, very wrong and therefore very misleading. In the government or education space, the harms from misleading Pennsylvania taxpayers and our constituents are not a cost that we should be willing to pay.
Therefore, we will be introducing legislation to require any AI tool or agent used in direct contact with the residents and students of Pennsylvania in a role within state government or public education to ensure a minimum standard of accuracy. Additionally, an audit process will be implemented to identify false statements and provide corrective guidance to residents and students whenever such false statements are found.
