In the near future I will reintroduce legislation (HB 1212) directing the PA Department of Education to conduct a comprehensive statewide costing-out study of charter schools and cyber charter schools.

Charter and cyber charter schools offer an alternative education option for Pennsylvania students and families.  As state elected officials, many of us have heard from our local school boards about the inequities in tuition rates and flaws in state reimbursement for charter and cyber charter education.  The Pennsylvania Constitution requires that we ‘provide for the maintenance and support of a thorough and efficient system of public education.’  We must be accountable for the dollars invested in that system.  A thorough study of the actual cost of charter and cyber charter school education should be completed to ensure that taxpayer dollars are being spent effectively.
