INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, MARCH 3, 2009  

  

  

  

A RESOLUTION

Commemorating the month of November 2009 as "National Adoption

2

Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania.

3

WHEREAS, This Commonwealth is committed to helping find safe,

4

permanent and loving homes for children who need homes through

5

adoption; and

6

WHEREAS, This Commonwealth has demonstrated its commitment

7

through various programs, including the Pennsylvania Adoption

8

Exchange, the Statewide Adoption and Permanency Network (SWAN),

9

the Internet website www.adoptpakids.org and the toll-free

10

hotline 1-800-585-SWAN; and

11

WHEREAS, Since the inception of SWAN in 1992, more than

12

21,000 children have been adopted from the Pennsylvania child

welfare system; and

2

WHEREAS, Despite these many successes, there remains a need

3

for safe, permanent and loving homes; and

4

WHEREAS, The many caring families who have provided improved,

5

more stable lives to children through adoption deserve to be

6

recognized and honored; and

7

WHEREAS, November 2009 marks the 19th anniversary of

8

"National Adoption Awareness Month" observances in the United

9

States and the 33rd anniversary of "National Adoption Week";

10

therefore be it

11

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives, in congruence

12

with national recognition, commemorate the month of November

13

2009 as "National Adoption Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania and

14

recommit to the goal of helping to find a safe, permanent and

15

loving home for each child in this Commonwealth who needs one.
