Memo
Please join me in sponsoring legislation introduced as S.B. 505 in the 2010-2011 legislative session by Senators COSTA, FONTANA, BREWSTER, FERLO AND WASHINGTON.
It was brought to my attention that current law providing for the compensation of jail employees who are injured or who contract diseases in the course of their work may not be eligible for compensation for compensation under the Second Class County Code.
The legislation I am proposing will amend the Second Class County Code to provide that employees of the county jail who are injured, become ill or contract a disease as a result of the performance of their employment at the county jail are paid their full salary until the disability they experience has ceased.
The current workers’ compensation offset provided in law will continue. That is, if workers compensation is paid, it shall be paid to the county or offset from the wages paid to the employee during the period of the disability.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
