A concern has been raised that current zoning law would permit a municipality to approve the location of a nursing home, assisted living residence or personal care home in an area zoned "industrial."
This could pose a potential health risk to senior citizens and health care professionals should a major accident like an explosion or chemical spill arise from a business also located within the industrial zone. My legislation would create the "Assisted Living Residence, Nursing Home and Personal Care Home Siting Restriction Act" which would restrict these facilities from being placed in industrially zoned areas.
