In the near future, I intend to introduce a resolution recognizing May 11, 2013 as National Association of Letter Carriers "Stamp Out Hunger!" Food Drive Day in the Commonwealth.
This year will mark the 21st anniversary for the nation's largest single-day food drive. These donations provide a critical boost for the summer months, a time when supplies are low and school lunch programs are not available. Last year, the local Letter Carriers delivered more than 370,000 pounds of food to Second Harvest and other member agencies for distribution for families.
This assistance is extremely important for hungry families in these tough economic times and I urge you to join me in bringing awareness to "Stamp Out Hunger" and to the greater issue of hunger in our Commonwealth.
