Senator Lisa Baker
R Senate District 20
Memo
I will soon be introducing legislation to allow a greater number of disabled veterans to obtain free fishing and hunting licenses. Because these measures amend two separate Titles-- Title 30 (Fish) and Title 34 (Game) -- they are contained in two separate bills, which will be Senate Bills 1090 and 1091 upon introduction. A single co-sponsorship memo for both of these bills was originally posted on June 28, 2013.
Currently, a war-time era veteran rated as 100% disabled can obtain a free hunting and fishing license as well as a property tax exemption. However, a veteran rated at less than 100% percent but paid at the 100% rate due to unemployability can only receive the tax exemption – but not the free fishing and hunting license.
My legislation will clarify that those rated at less than 100% but paid at the 100% rate due to unemployability are eligible for the free hunting license under Title 34 (Senate Bill 1090), and the free fishing license under Title 30 (Senate Bill 1091).
The cosponsors already listed on the hunting legislation are Brubaker, Brewster, Costa, Erickson, Greenleaf, Hutchinson, Fontana, Mensch, Rafferty, Teplitz, Washington, Schwank, Smith, Solobay, Stack, Tomlinson, Vulakovich, Waugh, White, Yaw, Yudichak.
Thank you for considering this proposed legislation.
