Memo
I am reintroducing Senate Bill 24, amending the Vehicle Code to reduce the percentage of service-connected disability required for a veteran to qualify for a severely disabled veteran license plate.  My legislation reduces the requirement from 100% disability to at least 75% disability.

The Department of Transportation issues the special registration plate designating the vehicle as belonging to a severely disabled veteran.  As a result of having this disabled veteran plate, the veteran may park in areas reserved for handicapped parking.

The special registration plate may be used only on a passenger car or truck with a gross weight of not more than 9,000 pounds.  In the case of a motorcycle, the department issues a decal for display on the registration plate.

During the 2015-16 legislative session, SB 24 was approved by the Senate Transportation Committee.
