Senator Christine Tartaglione
D Senate District 2
Memo
In the near future, I will be introducing companion legislation to Representative Gingrich’s former HB 2375 of 2015-2016. This legislation would provide funding to the Department of Labor and Industry’s Service and Infrastructure Improvement Fund (SIIF). HB 2375 passed the House with a vote of 175-13.
The Service and Infrastructure Improvement Fund was established to help assist the Department of Labor and Industry in order to expedite the processing and review of unemployment compensation claims. However, the funding for the Service and Infrastructure Improvement sunset at the end of the 2016 fiscal year. Without this funding, the Department of Labor and Industry did not receive the necessary funds and has been forced to close 3 call centers in Lancaster, Altoona, and Jonestown. In addition to this, the Department of Labor and Industry was forced to furlough 520 employees.
Please join in co-sponsoring this important legislation and ensure that the Department of Labor and Industry has the necessary funding, equipment, and personnel to assist Pennsylvania workers at their most vulnerable time.
