Memo
In the near future, I plan to re-introduce legislation – SB 474 of the 2015-16 Session – to require Senate confirmation of the individual appointed to fulfill the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) position at the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (Turnpike), which I have sponsored since 2007.

The Turnpike oversees “America’s First Superhighway” and encompasses 552 miles of tolled roadways that carry more than 194 million vehicles a year. The Turnpike also manages an operating budget in excess of $350 million and a 10-year capital plan that is approximately $5.7 billion.

As a Commonwealth agency that collects and expends taxpayer dollars, the Senate of Pennsylvania should provide advice and consent into the process of appointing this agency head similar to other agency heads appointed by the Governor.

SB 474 was sponsored by EICHELBERGER, BROWNE, VULAKOVICH, SCHWANK, AUMENT, VANCE, VOGEL, FOLMER, WHITE and BAKER.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this important piece of legislation to enact a balance of power in the appointment of the Turnpike’s CEO.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact Nolan Ritchie of my staff at nritchie@pasen.gov.
