Resolution - January as Blood Donor Month

Memo
In the near future, I plan to reintroduce a resolution designating January 2017 as “National Blood Donor Month” in Pennsylvania.
According to the American Red Cross, someone is in need of blood every 2 seconds. Blood donation saves countless lives, but donations are often difficult to receive in the winter months due to holiday activity - despite the increase in demand from blood banks due to accidents from inclement weather and/or illness.
Blood taken from just one donor can help save the lives of up to 3 people. Donating blood is a simple, safe, lifesaving and selfless gift that millions of Americans are eligible to give and it only takes about 10 minutes.
My resolution would help bring awareness to the constant needs of blood banks in Pennsylvania, and encourage eligible individuals to donate blood and help save lives.
This is a reintroduction of SR 268 from 2016. Co-sponsors included: Costa, Fontana, Farnese, Yudichak, Argall, Dinniman, Haywood, Kitchen, Sabatina, Schwank, Wozniak, Aument, Baker, Eichelberger, Rafferty, Scavello, Vulakovich, White and Hughes.
