In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation that will provide the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) with authority to monitor the impact of construction projects on privately owned water sources.
Currently, DEP has statutory authority to regulate projects that could potentially impact public water sources. It has recently come to my attention that DEP lacks similar statutory authority to regulate projects that may impact private water sources like a residential water well. In light of recent unfortunate events in my district, I think it is imperative that DEP has the ability to exercise their regulatory responsibility to help protect private water sources if individual property owners chosen to have DEP function in that capacity.
Please join me in co-sponsoring this important legislation.
