Firearm Safe Sales and Use Tax Exemption

Senator Scott Hutchinson
R Senate District 21
Memo
In the near future, I plan to re-introduce legislation that provides for a sales tax exemption on the purchase of firearm safes and vaults.
Gun safety is an important issue to all of us. The task of responsibly and safely owning and using a firearm does not stop at the local gun shop or shooting range. This job also extends to the home. With a third of American households having a gun, safely storing firearms at home is a crucial part of the gun safety picture.
By exempting gun safes and vaults from sales tax, this legislation would incentivize the purchase of these very important items by making them more affordable for the citizens of Pennsylvania. This bill would not only make gun safes and vaults cheaper, it would also make Pennsylvania’s homes safer.
I hope that you would please join me in sponsoring this critical legislation. If you have any questions regarding this legislation please contact Nathan Akers in my office at 787-9684 or nakers@pasen.gov.
