Pennsylvania’s transition to 100 percent renewable energy by 2050 must start now!
On April 21st, 2021, we will be introducing legislation to transition Pennsylvania to 100% renewable energy by 2050.
Article 1, Section 27 of our state constitution declares the commonwealth's natural resources "are the common property of all the people, including generations yet to come."
To honor our oath to uphold our founding document — one of only two states nationwide to enshrine within our constitution the venerable duty of environmental stewardship— we as legislators must protect Pennsylvania's air, land, and water from pollution.
The science is clear: the climate crisis is happening, it’s caused by human activity, and the consequences of inaction will be severe. The Commonwealth is already feeling the effects of climate change.
We must end our greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 or pass a point of no return and condemn people, the planet and all living things to a future without access to clean air or water. We owe it to our children and future generations to leave them with a safe, livable climate. Furthermore, economically we cannot afford to delay bold action any longer. We need to invest in the future of our workforce and our planet now.
We as a legislature, elected to serve the public, have to act now and take action to save our planet.
This bill will go a long way towards maximizing the environmental and economic benefits of developing Pennsylvania’s renewable energy industry, with labor at the table.
