Memo
At the heart of administering fair elections is the fundamental premise that all candidates should be treated equally - no matter which party they represent or how they come to have their name on the ballot.
Unfortunately, under current law there is an inconsistent requirement for candidates to file a statement of financial interest during an election. Candidates who file nominating petitions are removed from the ballot for failure to file these statements; however, those who are placed on the ballot due to a write-in campaign are not.
Soon I will be introducing legislation to extend the requirement for filing a statement of financial interests to all candidates who appear on the ballot in a General Election. This legislation is modeled after House Bill 2484 from last session which passed the House unanimously.
Please join me in cosponsoring this important legislation.
