Memo
Known as the “festival of lights,” Diwali is a time of renewal for over 6 million Americans. The five-day festival of Indian origin marks a time of celebration and deep cultural significance for those who take part.

November 12th marks the day of observation in 2023, and while the autumn day on which people celebrate Diwali varies from year-to-year, the time of reflection and celebration it represents holds constant.

Pennsylvanians of South Asian descent and all who celebrate deserve to have their holiday recognized. My legislation will make Diwali an official holiday in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

I ask that you join me in cosponsoring this piece of legislation that respects and upholds Pennsylvanians’ rich and diverse cultural traditions.
