Memo
In the near future, we will introduce legislation to establish a state tax deduction for Pennsylvanians who have received or will receive future payments related to the Norfolk Southern train derailment.
In the aftermath of the derailment, Norfolk Southern committed to pay more than $7.3 million in damages to
Pennsylvania residents and first responders in Beaver and Lawrence Counties who were adversely impacted.
Our legislation will allow for a state income tax deduction for disaster relief payments provided by a government agency, Norfolk Southern, or an insurer as a result of the derailment.
The state of Ohio has already established such deduction for their residents who received payments and we believe it’s fair to do the same for Pennsylvanians.
