Memo

In the near future, I plan to reintroduce legislation to amend the County Code to prohibit the removal of flag holders from the graves of veterans.

An American Legion Post in my district has brought to my attention an incident in which the owners of a cemetery had removed the flag holders from the graves of veterans. Many veterans groups use the holders as markers for the placement of new flags every Memorial Day. Currently, the County Code only addresses the care and removal of the flag, not the holder.  This legislation would help ensure that our veterans are allowed to rest in peace under the flag they served.

This legislation was SB 456 in the 2011-2012 session and was co-sponsored by Orie, Fontana, Rafferty, Robbins, Farnese, Tomlinson, D. White, Kasunic, Baker, Tartaglione, Pippy, Alloway, Ward, Eichelberger, Waugh, Brewster, Solobay, Mensch, M. White, and Browne.
